What is acupressure?
Firstly, IT DOES NOT INVOLVE NEEDLES! (That is acupuncture!!!) 😀
A Seated Acupressure Massage (SAM) usually consists of a 15-20 minute sequence known as a Kata. It includes compressions, kneading, percussion, and stretching, It focuses on the upper back, the head, neck, lower back, shoulders, arms, and hands. The client is fully clothed throughout, and no oils are used. It is performed on a special ergonomically designed chair to provide support and comfort. At Just a Number Fitness, I deliver this therapy in the comfort of the client’s own home. A small amount of space is required to allow me to set up the chair and be able to move around it as I perform the Kata. I am fully certified and insured to deliver this therapy.
The origin of the Kata is in ancient East Asian massage techniques known as Anmo in China, and Anma in Japan. The literal translation is “press and rub”. At the beginning of the 20th century, a breakaway group modified their techniques and named their practice Shiatsu. The SAM which I practice is a mix of both Anma and Shiatsu, combined with other massage techniques.
The aim of SAM is to RELAX, REJUVINATE and RE-ENERGISE. It can help to reduce muscle tension and stress and give you a sense of calm and wellness.
IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO TREAT INJURIES & IS NOT A SPORT’S MASSAGE
There are contra-indicators which can make this type of therapy unsuitable for some people. A full consultation is carried out beforehand, including a discussion regarding medical conditions and medications. This is to ensure the therapy is safe and causes no risk. Clients are required to sign an informed consent prior to any therapy.
